Private Music Tuition

Private music tuition is available for a wide range of instruments. These lessons are provided on school premises by a dedicated group of private tutors. Arrangements and payments for private lessons are made directly with the music tutor.

Arranging a private music lesson

If your private music lesson will occur during the school day, you must complete a and have it approved by the teacher of the missed class.

Brass tutors

Joe Lisk

Joseph Lisk is a trumpeter and has been teaching brass instruments for over 10 years. He completed a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has experience playing in a wide variety of ensembles and musical styles.

He finds joy in making music, especially in collaboration with others such as the Music Box Project and the South Coast Big Band, and believes that students get the most out of their instrument when collaborating to create music as well. Joseph aims not only to equip students with skills for ensemble playing, but also looks at their individual needs, catering private lessons to each student.

Cello tutors

George Yang

George has completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is currently finishing studying a Masters of Music (Performance) also at Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a Cello Major.

  • 8 years cello teaching experience in KMEC; teaches at Gladesville Public School, Lindfield Public School and privately in Chatswood.
  • Loves teaching and has a lot of patience for students.
  • Makes lessons fun and exciting but also emphasises technique and musicality.
  • Selected as Principal cello of Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra in 2014 and 2015.
  • Experienced in Orchestral, chamber and solo performance.
  • Participated in Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp 2014 and 2015.
  • Member of Willoughby Symphony, The Metropolitan Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Sydney North Chamber Orchestra, and Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra.

Felicity Stanwell

Felicity has been tutoring for over 20 years and enjoys motivating students so they come to love performing in Ensembles, Concert Bands, Stage Bands or at Church. She works patiently alongside students and aims to make lessons enjoyable. Felicity has successfully tutored many students through AMEB exams.

Felicity is currently a member of the Northern Beaches Symphonic Wind Ensemble, which has competed in the Australian National A Grade Band Championships and regularly plays in community concerts, including the Manly Jazz Festival. Felicity also tutors at Terrey Hills Public School and from her home studio.

In her time away from tutoring Felicity loves to design, paint and create plus spend time with her husband and three lovely kids!

Brianna Walkden-Brown

Brianna has completed a Bachelor of Music Performance in Flute at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She also has both her AMusA and LMusA Diplomas in Flute Performance.

Brianna creates an engaging and enjoyable environment, sharing her passion with students as they develop as musicians. She has successfully prepared students for all AMEB levels, HSC, concerts and competitions.

Iain Brown

Iain has over 20 years of teaching experience in individual and group/classroom lessons. He has successfully prepared students for concerts, competitions and HSC Exams

Skills: sight-reading, composition, improvisation, arrangement, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, mandolin, guitar and vocals.

Iain has also played, toured and recorded with many Australian and NZ acts, musicals and various shows.

Matt Roberts

Matt has over 25 years experience tutoring music in schools and private academies, and is a seasoned professional performing and recording musician. Combining music theory and technique fundamentals with popular songs of different styles, Matt aims to encourage a love and deeper understanding of music and an enthusiasm for the instrument to become the best player you can be. Piano tutors

Emma Gelding

Emma completed her Bachelor of Music with Honours at Sydney University. She holds both LTCL and A.Mus.A diploma in piano performance and an A.Mus.A diploma in piano accompaniment. Emma thoroughly enjoys teaching piano and has twenty years of experience in this field. Emma is married to Matt and they have three beautiful children Joel, Laura and Ben.

Kim Kennedy

Kim is a graduate from the University of Texas with a Degree in piano performance. She has had over 20 years of teaching experience and was on full scholarship at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor for full time accompanist for one year. Kim has many years experience of playing in bands and brings a lot of variety into teaching piano. Can teach kids, teens, adults from beginners to advanced. Teaches AMEB and Trinity exams if needed.

Chris Longford

Chris holds a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He also has experience as a piano and music theory tutor both privately and through the Forte Music School. His teaching style moulds to the needs and desires of each student, which has developed through teaching all ages and skill levels. It has always been a joy for Chris to create an enjoyable learning experience that deepens each student’s love of music.

Violin tutors

Melissa Khoh

For Melissa Khoh violin is her primary instrument. She was taught privately and gone through the AMEB syllabus. Teaching for the past 10 years she enjoys equipping others with a love of music. She plays regularly at her church and loves to rock climb.

Voice tutors

Sarah Clark

Sarah Clark, Lyric Soprano, completed a BMUS in Classical Performance in Singing at the Australian Institute of Music in 2008. She has also completed AMEB exams in level 7 and 8 for both piano and voice at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Over the last 10 years she has performed as soloist with Rockdale Opera, FAMS, Willoughby Symphony Choir, and Bathurst Symphony Orchestra and Choir. In 2008 she performed as soloist at the NSW Art Gallery in a concert for Classical Voice. In recent years she has performed as a concert soloist and as regular soloist with the Northern Beaches Orchestra.

Sarah has also completed Estill voice training, and has attended workshops with Harbour City Opera. She has studied under the tutelage of renowned tenor, Glenn Winslade, for the last 4 years.

Sarah has been teaching singing at ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ since 2012.

Kristen Serra

Kristen has been performing and teaching music for over 15 years. Starting out with the piano, she studied classical music with the Suzuki method, before going on to study jazz and other contemporary styles of music at the Australian Institute of Music. After receiving her BMus in Music Performance, Kristen further explored her passion for jazz, soul and pop music and has never looked back. It was during this period that she began writing her own material and singing became a natural result of her desire to communicate with her audience.

Kristen studied Speech Level Singing for several years under the guidance of two of Sydney’s top vocal tutors and uses those principles and techniques in her lessons to help students expand their vocal range, develop a smooth transition between registers and increase their performance confidence.

When she is not teaching and looking after her two young boys, Kristen performs as both a keyboardist and singer. She has shared the stage with some of Australia’s finest including Dami Im, Samantha Jade, Gabriella Cilmi, Prinnie Stevens and International pop star, Hilary Duff. You may have also seen her performing on popular TV shows such as X-Factor, Sunrise and The Morning Show.â€

Who can join the Concert Band or String Ensemble?

If you have been playing an instrument for more than six months and have regular lessons, you can join!

Membership fees are covered by the school so if you have an instrument and commit to regular lessons and practice, we would love you to come along - even visit for a couple of weeks to see if this is for you.
