At ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ Christian School, the Textiles Technology syllabus provides opportunities for students to:
Textiles Technology is an elective subject where students will be introduced to the design process, concepts and skills used in the textiles industry. The course aims to provide students with the skills and confidence to design, produce and evaluate quality textile projects.
In Year 9, there will be four projects which include designing and making your own pyjamas, plush toys, active gear and selling items for a fundraising stall.
In Year 10, there are two projects which include designing and making costumes and transforming old items into new.
There is always a folio involved with each project. The purpose of the folio is to document your design process and show what you have learnt about the particular project. Both theory and practical tasks work together. You will be taught all content in class.
Many students who join have not sewn since Year 7 or earlier. The course will help you relearn the basics and explore new skills. You just have to be willing to learn!
The school will supply the basics. You will have access to use the fabrics in the room. However, if you need a specific pattern, thread, fabric etc. for your design, you will be required to purchase these yourselves.
The Year 9 and 10 course will provide you the time to learn, experiment and refine your knowledge and skills in Textiles. I would highly recommend enrolling in this course if you are considering taking Textiles for the HSC.
Some students join in Year 10, which is also fine. However, if you do consider this, be prepared to learn new things quickly as the course is designed to be an extension of the skills learnt in Year 9.
